Welcome! Somerville for IRV is a blog written by residents of Somerville, Massachusetts who want our city to adopt Instant Runoff Voting for its local elections. Using IRV would eliminate the need for a costly preliminary election, do away with the spoiler effect that can occur with too many candidates, put an end to strategic bullet voting, foster more issue-based elections free of negative campaigning, and boost voter participation. In sum, it would make our elections cheaper, fairer, and ultimately, fewer.
